Welcome to Miss MacAdams and Room 9, 2008-9
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to thank all who attended Back to School Night. We had a fairly good turn out and that's a very good sign. Now it's time to make sure you have joined the P.T.A., you are gathering the donations from those family members and friends supporting the Math-A-Thon. I'll get back to you with more information regarding the field trips via the parent infor section of the binder-- we will be going on the iRecycle field trip on October 7th--forms will be sent home this week. The P.T.A. membership is very important. This year they're trying some new things and it looks as if the nuances are really fun. Giving your $7.00 membership fee does not mandate you to do anything, however, including meeting attendance, but it provides funds for the committees to use to put events together, or to buy playground equipment, arrange assemblies, and the myriad of incredible supports the P.T.A. most certainly provides for our school. We have now only three (inc. myself) from Rm. 9 who have paid for a P.T.A. membership. Think about becoming a member. The Math-A-Thon is half-way to completion. These monies are for classroom use. Our goal is $800.00. If EVERYONE gives something, we'd could quite easily reach our goal. If 20 families raised $50, we'd more than make our goal. But if only 8 families participate, they'd each need to bring in $100). WE ARE HOPEFUL we will be able to celebrate reaching our goal. Soon you will hear more about the field trip planned for our State Capitol, Sacramento. There we visit our State Capitol building, the Indian Museum, The Railroad Museum, and Sutter's Fort. (This trip is slated for Feb. 3, 2009). The Sacramento trip alone will cost approx. $50 per student and $25 for each chaperone. We will leave H.Green via yellow school bus, around 6:45 AM, and return at about 7:00PM. If the field trip fees for the year seems too difficult for you to give all at one time, please let me know and we can work out a payment plan that might work out better for you. The "Reading is Cool" contest provided through the San Jose (Sharks) hockey team has almost begun. Please make sure your student tracks the books he/she reads through out the month. I will pass out a reading log for this purpose on Wed, October 1st. Each month a new contest begins. Each month a different reader is acknowledged and awarded a medalion, and 10 participating classrooms earn a visit from Sharkie, himself. Chapter books can be broken into "every-50-pages=1 book", and also little story books read to young siblings, etc. are counted each as eqivalent to 1 book. Please participate and keep the log current. The Accelerated Reading program is just about to begin, as well, but there are some technical problems at District level and we're a little hung up, presently. Please stand-by patiently. Thanks for everything. I want to set up times to meet you all, for 15-20 minutes, very soon. In fact I've met with 4 or 5 families already. Stay tuned for further contact, or simply call me at: (510) 656-6438, x 41309 Miss Melanie MacAdams
