Welcome to Room Thirteen!
I'm thrilled to join the Harvey Green School community this year as the Fifth Grade teacher. We have a lot of exciting learning ahead of us this year, and I know that with your support we can face all challenges and achieve our goals. I am looking forward to meeting all parents and families on September 18th for Back-to-School Night!
Classroom Rules/Rewards/Consequences
I strongly believe that every classroom community consists of students, their families, the teacher, and the school administration. My fifth graders have as much responsibility in the running of the classroom as I do. Mutual caring and respect for one another make us a successful team. It is my goal for each student in my class to continue learning and becoming responsible members of our greater school community. I want my students to take responsibility for their own actions and to be mindful of how their decisions not only affect themselves, but also those around them.
My rules are few and simple, but they emphasize a concept of great importance: RESPECT FOR ALL. As a class, we have discussed and agreed to follow these rules in our classroom. Students will: 1. Follow all of the teacher’s directions 2. Keep our hands, feet, and things to ourselves 3. Not tease others 4. Clean up after ourselves
Rewards for appropriate behavior and exceptional conduct include but are not limited to: verbal praise, awards, tickets for the General Store, “Caught Being Good” coupons, preferred activity time, and positive notes or calls home.
Consequences for not adhering to classroom rules are as follows: 1st time: Verbal warning 2nd time: 5 minutes working away from the group 3rd time: 10 minutes working away from the group Severe Clause: Principal’s office; phone call and/or "pink slip" sent home
It is of tremendous importance to me, if at all possible, that you reinforce these rules even at home; so that we’ll have consistency in the way we influence positive behavior. The success of our students in the classroom depends greatly on the support they receive at home.
We have big shoes to fill since we are the only 5th grade class in Harvey Green this year. I am confident, however, that with your support and participation our students will have a meaningful and successful year!
Sincerely, Ms. Floresca
