Welcome to Room 1 AM

Thank you for all of your support for our classroom through our Mathathon. These funds go to buying new technology for our classroom, learning games, and supplies for hands on learning. The children have been having fun already with new game that was purchased that helps us with our phonics. Also a huge thanks for supporting the PTA in our fall fundraiser. This helps PTA to fund school events and contribute to our class.

What's been going on in class?
As we approach the end of our first trimester we will be doing a lot of assessing to see how much the children have learned. Students should be able to write their name, know their colors and shapes, count to 10, identify numbers to 10 and write numbers to 10, identify uppercase and lowercase letters, rhyming and read sight words. These words include: a, I, is, an, and, the, here, see, we, he, she. All studetns have learned songs to help them remember how to spell and recognize these words. The next time you are out and about in the store ask to see if your student can recognize these words. If you notice that your child is st

Students will be bringing home our pre-decodable books regularly. These books are to be kept at home in their special book box and should be read as much as possible. Students should be able to read all the words in the book but might need some help on the words under the picture. Make sure your student is pointing to each word as they read. This also helps to teach our sight words and will let you know when your student has mastered the sight words we are focusing on. Remember, these books can be added to the reading log every time they are read. This will help our class' chances of getting a visit from Sharkie :)

In math we just finished our chapter on sorting and classifying. Students became masters at sorting when we made our buttons with our button factory and when we sorted our pumpkins. The chapter we are currently working on is patterns. Students are picking this up really quick. You can help your student by making patterns out of simple objects around the house. This could be red sock, blue sock, red sock, blue sock, etc. We can also make patterns using three objects: spoon, knife, fork, spoon, knife, fork, etc. or spoon, spoon, fork, spoon, spoon, fork.

Conferences are coming up....
In November we will be meeting to discuss the progress of your child. This will be when you recieve a copy of your child's report card and address any concerns you may have. If you need a special time for a conference (such as an early time before school, or a later time after school) please let me know as soon as possible. We will be scheduling conferences and it is hard to re-arrange times once all are set. I am available to meet with people at later times... just let me know :)
