Welcome to Resource!
This class is designed to help the students help themselves. The main goal of the class is to improve the students’ school performance and prepare students for high school. We (the students, parents and teachers) will work together as partners to make this happen. Although many resource students have similar academic needs, they also have unique needs. The goal is for each student during Resource to work toward understanding and completing their schoolwork and improving their individual academic skills. Each student has goals stated in his/her Individualized Education Program (IEP). These goals will be addressed during periodic IEP mini-meetings held between the student and resource specialist.
Students will be graded in four categories in the Resource class. These are: · Organization Skills, which primarily involve proper, regular use of Horner’s Homework Assignment Book, binder and/or folders, and having necessary school equipment/supplies (pens, pencils, eraser, etc.). Students are graded weekly on a 10 point scale. · Behavior consists of being respectful to others and their property, allowing others, including the teacher, to work, and abiding by all school rules. The school rules are stated in the Horner Homework Assignment book. Students are graded daily on a 10-point scale. · Use of time consists of how well the student uses his time within Resource to work on general education and Resource assignments. Students are graded daily on a 10-point scale. · Assignments are a combination of classroom group assignments (primarily study skills) and individual (IEP) assignments. These are usually completed in the Resource class. Homework is rarely assigned. A student portfolio is kept in the Resource class.
Here is how each grading category is weighed: Organization 10 points per spot check Total Weight of 20% of final grade Behavior 10 points daily Total Weight of 15% of final grade Use of Time 10 points daily Total Weight of 15% of final grade Assignments* varies per assignment Total Weight of 50% of final grade *Assignments are a combination of Group and Individual Assignments.
The student’s grade will be based on the percentage of total earned points to total available points in each of the above grading categories. The following chart will convert the percentage grade to a letter grade. 93% to 100% A 90% to 92% A- 87% to 89% B+ 83% to 86% B 80% to 82% B- 77% to 79% C+ 73% to 76% C 70% to 72% C- 67% to 69% D+ 63% to 66% D 60% to 62% D- Below 60% F
