Ethnic/Race Relations Committees have been established at all schools in Fremont. The role of each committee is to:
*Monitor ethnic/race relations. *Serve as a resource in addressing race-related issues. *Serve as a sounding board for plans, concerns. *Meet as a full committee to take action. *Develop strategies for solving or resolving a race-related conflict or issue. *Refer cases to administration where disciplinary action appears appropriate. *Report to the District Ethnic/Race Relations Committee regarding the culture and feelings of the school. *Survey, assess and report on the school climate regarding race relations once a year. *Assess and give input to the school’s efforts to reduce race-related conflicts.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of this committee should contact Mr. Bailey at 656-4000. Back to Top
School Site Council The School Site Council (SSC) was set up by the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) and is the focus of a school-based management model. To ensure that this council operates within a school wide improvement perspective, FUSD requires that the membership of this council be drawn from the total school community. It includes administrators, teachers and parents or guardians of students. The SSC is charged with the responsibility of developing a program that is responsive to the needs of every student in the school. In order to accomplish this goal, the SSC is required to develop a school plan, allocate the supplement resources within the school to support this plan, and annually review and update the plan and budget to reflect changing needs and priorities within the school. The SSC is not to be viewed as an advisory body whose advice may be accepted or rejected. Instead, the actions of the SSC constitute the first step in a formal process for developing improvement strategies and for allocating resources to support these efforts. The process is completed only when FUSD formally agrees to the SSC’s proposal for utilizing the supplemental resources. This committee meets once a month. To serve on the Horner Junior High School Site Council, or to represent the Bilingual or GATE programs, please contact the front office. Back to Top
Technology Committee The Technology Committee is also part of the focus of the school-based management model. To ensure that this committee operates within a school wide improvement perspective, the membership of this committee can be drawn from the total school community. The Technology Committee is charged with the responsibility of developing a program that is responsive to the needs of every student and teacher in the school. In order to accomplish this goal, the Technology Committee is required to develop a school plan, identify supplemental resources and create a budget to support this plan, submit this budget to SSC for approval, and annually review and update the plan and budget to reflect changing needs and priorities within the school. Contact our Principal, Greg Bailey to volunteer. Back to Top
