Donation Corner I am trying to get a second television for room 42 so that all students will have an ideal view when we watch a video. If you could donate a 19 inch TV or bigger that would be great (new or used). Thanks so much:)
Do you have old magazines that you are getting rid of? I am looking for old magazines with science information and science pictures (ex. National Geographic). Please don't waste them and instead donate the magazines to science class! Thanks:)
Did you pick up extra school supplies such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, red pens, pencils, tape, glue, scissors, transparency paper, etc. We could always use additional supplies in science class.
TO BE PREPARED IN CLASS ALWAYS HAVE: 1. Spiral Notebook just for science 2. Pencils 3. Red Pen 4. Binder Paper 5. Folder Note: Having a packet of colored pencils, metric ruler, and calculator would be helpful for classroom projects.
For our noses only!!!! If any student would like to bring in a box of tissues the entire class would greatly appreciate it. Thank you :)

8th Grade Physical Science Green Sheet Welcome to 8th grade physical science. I look forward to joining you in your studies this year! The science standards set by the state include the study of motion, forces, structures of matter, the solar system, chemical reactions, the periodic table, density and buoyancy. You will be challenged to think like a scientist as we make observations, find patterns, propose explanations, and test ideas. Please take a moment to check out the standards at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/scgrade8.asp.
Classroom Policies 1. Follow the teacher’s directions immediately. 2. Be respectful of others thoughts, ideas, and personal items. 3. Come to class prepared everyday. 4. No eating, drinking, or grooming in class. 5. Use polite speech and body language. 6. Remain seated unless given permission.
Consequences 1. Initial verbal warning. 2. Students will write a letter to the teacher about his or her behavior. 3. Individual conference with teacher. 4. Detention and communication with parents. 5. Referral to the Responsibility Center with Administration involvement and/or class suspension.
Class Organization: Student’s progress will be assessed in the three following ways: 1. Tests & Quizzes = Students will be tested every 2 – 3 weeks. There will be a cumulative final at the end of each semester. Students should review notes, class handouts, & the textbook. 30% 2. Class Work = Lab assignments, group work, independent work, or projects completed in class. Students will receive an individual grade for all group work to ensure everyone is doing their part! 35% 3. Homework = Keep track of all returned homework. Incomplete & unacceptable work will be handed back for corrections. Homework will be assigned 3 – 4 times per week. NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED! 35%
Grading: The student’s grade will be base on a point percentage system A = 100 – 90% B = 89 – 80% C = 79 – 70 % D = 69 – 60%
Absences/Tardies Attendance in class is very important. The week’s assignments will be posted in the homework corner and on the school website. It is the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work during an absence and he/she will be allowed the same number of days they were absent to make up missing assignments. If the student is not in the door, in the proper seat and ready to work when the bell rings, that student is tardy. Three tardies equals one school lunch detention.
Materials: The following are required at ALL times, everyday in class * Spiral Notebook just for science * Red Pen *Folder *Two Pencils *Lined Paper *Suggested Materials = colored pencils, metric ruler, calculator
1st 5 Minutes of Class 1. Be seated in assigned seat at the bell and take out all materials. 2. Copy down homework assignments from HW corner into daily planner. 3. Complete activity or question. 4. Sharpen pencil if necessary and if time, take care of any unfinished business (example: check on missing or late work, study science topics).
Class Consequences: Daily Check Box If more than one student is being disruptive, class receives one check. After 3 checks, class owes teacher 1 minute of hallway time where there is complete silence.

Science Joke Corner Do you have a science joke to share? Write it on a piece of binder paper, submit in class and I will post it. When a third graders was asked to cite Newton's first law, she said, "Bodies in motion remain in motion, and bodies at rest stay in bed unless their mothers call them to get up."
Physics quote of the day: Anything that doesn't matter has no mass!
Q: Where does bad light end up? A: In a prism.
Two atoms were walking across a road when one of them said, "I think I lost an electron!" "Really?!" the other replied, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I'm absolutely positive." - Thanks Jason P5 :-)
Q: What did the thermometer say to the graduated cylinder? A: "You may have graduated, but I have many degrees!"
