Principal's Message

Dear Parents:

We are rapidly approaching the end of the first quarter, which is November 4. Although most of our students have settled in and are performing well, the mid-first quarter report indicates that we have some students performing below grade level expectations. In most cases, this is due to two common factors, homework assignments that are not completed and poor test scores. It is important that you stress to your students that they keep up their grades in all of their classes. Please monitor your student’s homework assignment book to ensure completion of assignments and see that sufficient time is allotted for test preparation. The Counselors’ Corner in this newsletter provides additional recommendations to improve student performance.

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on November 18, 19 and 20. We are trying to hold conferences for students who received a C grade or lower. Map and locations of teachers will be handed out when you pick up the report card. Report cards may be picked up in the library before conferencing with the teachers. Please read the information and see the assigned conference time included in this letter and make every effort to attend at the assigned time.

Horner school is happy to announce that on November 17 we will have a new web-site. The newsletters will be on the web-site along with a school calendar. Teachers will have basic classroom information on their web pages.

Providing your child with a quality educational experience is our goal. The administration and staff has high expectations to increase student achievement, and I am please with the start of our 08/09 year. I have been visiting all of the classrooms, and I see students engaged in great lessons. The Horner Sports program is equally promising. Our girls’ volleyball team is off to a great start as both teams have not lost a match yet this year. Great job girls and Coach Trubey.

As we begin the Winter Break and the start of the New Year, I want to extend wishes from the Horner Staff for a happy and safe holiday.

Sincerely,

Greg Bailey
