Welcome to Mrs. Schmeel SDC Math & Science Class 2007-2008
We have now completed our 1st quarter after I got off to a rather bumpy start but it seems that most students have now adjust to my routine. Grades for the first quarter will arrive soon and for the most part were very good. Students are completing class assignments and turning in homework.
This year we are focusing on 7th Grade Life Science Standards and next year we will be studying 8th Grade Physical Science. This schedule works to give students a more in depth curriculm.
We have been studying Cell Biology and have moved on to Genetics. Other areas of study during this year will be Evolution, Earth and Life History, Structure and Function in Living Systems, Physical Principles in Living Systems and Investigation and Experimentation. We have successfully completed several labs in regards to Animal and Plant Cells and students seem to enjoy them and were engaged.
In Math this year we are in the process of enrolling students in an exciting new program Excelerated Math. Horner has purchased the 5th, Pre-Algebra and Algebra libraries in which our students participate in. This program is computer generated and allows students to work at their own pace. We are hopeful that we will be awarded a grant to purchase other libraries that will address basic math skills needs. At present students are working in Math Steps program that address all basic math needs as well as Pre-Algebra. All students are building Algebra skills.
