Welcome to the Physical Education Department
PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTRACT
Dear Parents or Guardians:
We hope this guide will help answer many of your questions and also help make your students time in Physical Education a fun and rewarding experience. We have asked the students to take this guide home and share it with you. We would appreciate it if you can go over the guide with your son or daughter and answer the questions below. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us. We are looking forward to this school year with your son or daughter.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
The sports and activities listed below make up most of our Physical Education curriculum. The major emphasis throughout the year is on skill development and personal fitness. There will be a wide variety of activities designed to help each student maintain and improve personal fitness. Units are three weeks in duration.

GRADING POLICY for Mr. Strong
Each quarter takes into account the following areas: daily participation(30%), attitude/sportsmanship(15%), endurance runs/improvement(15%), fitness tests/skill tests(20%), homework/written test(20%).
DAILY PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED! Students who need to be excused from P.E. due to illness or injury need to bring a signed note from home. Female students are not excused from participation during menstruation. After a second consecutive day, a doctor's note or personal call from the parent would be appreciated. Student's with a doctor's excuse must dress out unless physically disabled. Missed assignments will need to be made up at a later date. Written work is given when student's are on an independent study contract. Student's dress and participate but do not do timed runs while fasting. Timed runs and other missed assignments are made up when the fasting time ends.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE
One of the nice things about junior high is being able to dress out for your P.E. class. There are no showers so remember to take your clothes home to wash, often! You will dress out everyday. You will have your own locker and take care of your own clothes, lock, etc. Be sure to use your lock to secure your clothes! You can purchase P.E. clothes at Horner anytime during the year. All clothes will be marked during the first week of school with your first and last name. You will need a good pair of tennis shoes and any color of clean socks. Sweats may be used during cold weather and should be white or light gray and will also be marked with your name. Clothing prices are as follows:
Blue shorts - $15 Gray shirt - $15 Sweatshirt - $15 Sweatpants - $15 Lock - $5 Heart Monitor strap - $5 (Sweatshirt and strap are optional and locks may be brought from home. Please no key locks.)
LOCKS & LOCKERS
All students need a combination lock to use daily in the locker room. Please NO KEY LOCKS. Master locks will be available for sale ($5) at Horner, or you may bring your own combination lock. STUDENTS ARE REMINDED TO LOCK UP ALL YOUR BELONGINGS WHEN IN PE AND TO SECURE YOUR LOCK WHEN YOU LEAVE.
LOANERS
Loaners are available in the locker room office on a limited basis for students who forget their clothes. Parents will be notified the first time that loaners are borrowed. The second and third time will result in a lunch detention and the fourth and successive times after will result in Saturday detention. Students are not allowed to borrow clothes from other students or discipline action will result. Parents are notified by the Vice Principal for lunch and Saturday detentions.
ABSENCES
Physical Education is a participation class, it is your responsibility to make up absences and to check with your teacher to make up missed tests.
Mr. Strong's: MAKE UP ASSIGNMENT : For each class that is missed the student is required to do 60 minutes of activity outside of class. The student must write a paragraph on the activity completed and have it signed by a parent. Work is due the last day of each quarter to be counted for that quarter only. Tests and timed runs must be made up with the teacher.
