MATH WITH MR. MUEHLING IN ROOM 1

BEHAVIOR I EXPECT FROM YOU is that you are silent at the appropriate times, that you always respect me, that you obey me the first time you are told to do something, and that you treat others as you would want them to treat you.

BOOK is to be covered, left at home, taken care of, and used for
reference.

CALCULTORS (your own) may be used at any time, unless otherwise stated. Calculators may be used (but not shared) during a test. Each student should bring a calculator everyday. A simple calculator, with a square root key should be fine.

CHECKING YOUR WORK must be done in every problem. The
Hide and Reveal method will be taught as a way to check work.

DISRUPTIVE TALKING: 1st time = detention. 2nd time on same day
= Responsibility Center.

EATING, DRINKING, AND GUM CHEWING are not allowed in class.
Bottles or cans may be thrown away if I see you drinking from them in class. Drinking bottled water is OK.

EXTRA CREDIT points are applied after the last test of the
quarter and can be earned in the following ways:
1 POINT for spotting a math mistake I have written.
2 POINTS for getting aparent’s signature on a test.
3 POINTS for answering a Pay Attention Points question in class when your name is randomly selected.
OR
reading a MATH STORY or an attitude-improvement-story,
such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, with the class.
5 – 10 POINTS for correctly filling in a video notes sheet
or for correctly completing special worksheets.

FOLDER for math worksheets, tests, & all other math papers
must be kept by you. Organize all papers by date, keeping this
green sheet as the front sheet. This folder does not have to be a
separate binder, just a section of a binder you're already using.

“HASTE MAKES WASTE," a quote by Benjamin Franklin, means that rushing to do something may result in you having to do it over. Math problems need to be solved
s-l-o-w-l-y to prevent mistakes.

HELP from me on your math is after school until 2:30 in room 1.

HOMEWORK is work not finished in class. It is due the next school day. Late work is not accepted unless you have an excused absence.

HOMEWORK PASS excused you from the work on one assignment. You start out each quarter with 3 homework passes. A homework pass
treats the assignment as if it never existed. Tell me when you want
to use a homework pass, and record the date of the
assignment for which you used the homework pass.

HORNER CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE meets at lunch on Wednesdays in room 1. We share things about the Christian experience, including watching Christian videos. All religions are welcome!

LATE WORK is not accepted, except from students with an excused
absence.

PAYING ATTENTION means you can state the main idea of what was just said in your own words, and you understand it! Paying attention is one of the most valuable skills you can learn, but it’s hard work! I always have to write myself notes to remind me of
things to do. So, if taking notes helps you to pay attention--do whatever it takes!

PENCILS OR PENS MAY BE USED. Pencil sharpening is allowed only during the first two minutes of class. You should bring with you enough pencils or pens so that you cannot possibly run out of something to write with while at school for the day.

POTTY PASSES, are not physical passes. Tell me when you want to use one of your 3 potty passes & record the date.

REMAIN SEATED AT ALL TIMES! Raise your hand for permission to get out of your seat.

REMEMBER TO TAKE ALL ITEMS WITH YOU BEFORE LEAVING EACH CLASS. You may not go back to a class to retrieve something you may
have left behind—even it it’s your purse, valuable jacket, or binder with your math homework in it!

SHOW WORK for problems to get credit, unless the directions say
(or it’s obvious) that answers only are OK.

TARDY means you are not in your assigned seat by the end of the ringing of the bell.

TESTS, given about every three weeks, are worth 100 points each (the value of 10 daily lessons). We will review problems that are
similar to the test problems two days before the test; therefore tests may not be retaken due to a poor grade.
