Course Outline:
Language Arts: We will be working on reading decoding (SRA), comprehension, and basic writing skills. Spelling and reading assignments will be given Monday through Thursday.

Math: We will be reviewing and building general math skills. Higher level math will be modified and real life math skills will be incorporated. Homework will be assigned and focused on building math fluency.

History: we will be learning about American History through a variety of materials and resources. The focus will be on learning key vocabulary words and concepts.

Science: In Science, we will be focusing on Physical Science and Earth Science. Hands-on activities, science related videos, and research will be included.

SDC curriculum is modified and designed to meet individual needs and is based on the standards for California Public School.



The SDC program will incorporate the following principles related to the learning patterns of the early adolescent:

a. Students of this age have short attention spans and need to have their learning broken down into segments.

b. Early adolescents retain and master information when they can make some personal sense of the material. Teaching strategies need to incorporate “affective components” to help the young adolescent find some personal meaning in the material.



Materials: a. 1 three-ring binder

b. 3 packs of lined paper

c. 3 notebooks

d. 2 boxes of tissues

e. 1 box of color pencils

f. 5 pencils and 1 red pen



Behavior Expectation: All students are expected to be on their best behavior. There will be a zero tolerance for students who choose not to behave. The procedure is as follows:

1st Offense: Verbal warning

2nd Offense: Conference & Teacher detention

3rd Offense: Parent phone call and RC referral

Serious misconducts (e.g., fighting) will be dealt with in the office immediately.



Grading Policy: Homework assignment-25%

Class work and tests-50%

Participation and behavior-25%

We will be focusing on Language Arts and World History this year. In Language Arts, we will be working on reading (SRA decoding and comprehension) and basic writing skills. Spelling and reading assignments will be given Monday through Thursday. In History, students will learn about World History through a variety of materials and resources. SDC Curriculum is modified and designed to meet individual needs and is based on the framework and standards for California Public school.

The SDC program will incorporate the following principles related to the learning patterns of the early adolescent:
a. Students of this age have short attention spans and need to have their learning broken down into segments.

b. Early adolescents retain and master information when they can make some personal sense of material. Teaching strategies need to incorporate "affective components" to help the young adolescent find some personal meaning in the material.

Materials:
a. 1 three-ring binder
b. 1 pack of lined paper
c. 2 notebooks
d. 1 box of tissues
e. 1 box of color pencils
f. 3 pencils and 1 red pen

Behavior Expectation: All students are expected to be on their best behavior. There will be a zero tolerance for students who choose not to behave. The procedure is as follows:

1st Offense: Student will receive a verbal warning.
2nd Offense: Student will be placed in a quiet area.
3rd Offense: Student will have teacher detention.
4th Offense: Student will be sent to RC or office.
Serious misconducts (e.g., fighting) will be dealt with in the office immediately

Grading Policy:
