THE 2009 INFORMATIONAL WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP MEETING WILL BE HELD OCTOBER 15TH AT 6:30PM IN THE MULTI-USE ROOM. A FLYER WILL BE SENT HOME TO INTERESTED EIGHTH GRADERS.

The students of room 26 and myself thank you kindly for all the wonderful donations. I know this year is going to be a great year!

I have received many parent letters. Thank you! These are extremely beneficial. Remember, there is no due date, so please keep them coming!

WEEK OF: November 17, 2008
* Vocabulary lesson 9--no writing Complete everything else, including Dictionary Skills.
Due Wednesday, Nov. 19 (QUIZ on lesson 9, Wed.)
* Mystery book assignment due on or before Thur. 11/20
A handout was given in class.
* Spelling, Latin, and Grammar packet due Fri. 11/21 (QUIZ)
* Little book of "Gratitude" due Fri. Handout given in class.


This week: In literature, through our reading of "Charles," we will focus on point of view. Students will also write a personal reflection on the topic of "Gratitude."

We will begin to study short story components and read a variety of short stories. Throughout the unit, students will also write a persuasive essay and their own fiction story (using all the elements we study). Students will also practice many writing elements in his/her writing notebook.


Each week, students will be required to interpret the Quote of the Week in his/her reading notebook (pages 16-25)

Work on your Word Bank lists (in notebook) Have ten words by 9/15. The next ten words must be listed in your word bank on 9/22 and so on...
This is ongoing. Make it meaningful!

With little to no school budget available for classroom supplies, the English department has put together a "wish" list. These materials will all directly benefit the students. If you can donate anything below, it would be GREATLY accepted with lots of appreciation. See invidivual English teachers for ink cartridge brand and style number. Again thank you for any donation that you can make.

binder paper(3 hole punched)
rulers

any construction paper or copy paper(graphic/designed computer paper is also accepted)
correction fluid
tissue (Kleenex) The school does not provide this.
any middle school chapter books that you or your family no longer want.
