Horner Junior High School is located in the Irvington District of Fremont. Students attending
Grimmer, Green, Hirsch, Warm Springs and Weibel Elementary Schools attend Horner for the seventh
and eighth grades before going to Irvington High School for grades nine through twelve. Horner
Junior High School enjoys an enrollment of approximately 950 ethnically diverse students.
The Horner staff has made a commitment for continuous improvement of student performance by using
a cycle of evaluation, planning, and action, which involves all stakeholders. Clear vision defined by
high standards is the cornerstone of instruction at Horner Junior High School. Specific programs and
differentiated instruction provide for the academic needs of all students including GATE, Special
Education, and At-Risk students. Horner was recognized as a California Distinguished School for
outstanding performance on the standardized SAT-9 tests and its comprehensive academic and
integrated programs,

Horner Junior High School works closely with all the schools in the Irvington Attendance Area. A
kindergarten through twelfth grade articulation in mathematics provides for a coordinated transition for
all students. As a member of the Bay Area Schools Reform Collaborative, Horner Junior High School,
along with Irvington High School, Green Elementary, and Grimmer Elementary, has incorporated the
Cycle of Inquiry in the development of instructional strategies designed to improve reading comprehension.
Horner Junior High School has often been described as the "best kept secret" in Fremont Unified,
because of the variety of programs designed to meet the needs of students and prepare them for the
future.
